Grain Inspection, Packers & Stockyards Administration:

The GIPSA toll-free telephone hotline for reporting violations and abuses in the grain, livestock, meat, and poultry industries. Call the hotline at 1-800-998-3447.

The USDA Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration maintains this toll-free telephone number for reporting violations and abuses in the grain, livestock, meat, and poultry industries. The hotline is available to all interested parties who wish to provide information on possible violations of the United States Grain Standards Act, the Agricultural Marketing Act, or the Packers and Stockyards Act.

The toll free number provides a direct and easy way for producers and others to access GIPSA’s regulatory resources. Callers will reach a voicemail system that will tape their messages. The Agency will respond as quickly as possible to reports of violations.

CAFO Regulations

The Administrator of USEPA signed the Final Rule regarding Concentrated
Animal Feeding Operation's (CAFO) on December 15th,2002. An excellent website has
been developed by the Environmental Protection Agency containing the text of the Final Rule, several fact sheets, etc., and can be accessed at:

Agricultural Guides

The NASDA Research Foundation, working with the National Center for Agricultural Law Research and Information at the University of Arkansas Law Center recently released six new agricultural guides for Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, Washington, and Wisconsin.

The 26 state and federal guides competed to date are located on NASDA web site at http://www.nasda.org/. To access the guides, go to "NASDA Research Foundation" and click on "State-by-State Environmental Guides Affecting Agriculture". The guides are available in PDF format. USDA-NRCS has updated the Q&A sheet for the Environmental Quality Incentive
Program (EQIP)
as well as added a Fact Sheet, Key Points, and Q&A for the
new Conservation Security Program. This and other conservation provision

then click on 2002 Farm Bill Conservation Provisions to access this
informational material.

Milk & Dairy Beef Quality Assurance Center

In October 2002, the National Livestock Producers Association decided to endorse and help promote the quality assurance guidelines developed by the Milk & Dairy Beef Quality Assurance Center (DQA). NLPA staff is also working with DQA to develop a set of best practices to promote DQA's efforts at marketing facilities.
